Our Program Objectives

For the Children

At the Co-op, we aim to bestow children with the abilities and confidence they will need to learn about the world and how they fit in it. We strive to:

  • Provide a place and time for them to play with their peers.

  • Help them learn to share and take turns.

  • Help them feel secure in an ever-enlarging environment by giving them practice in accepting help and guidance from adults outside of the family.

  • Provide them with the opportunities to explore their environment and to experiment with a wide variety of materials than it would be possible for most homes to provide.

  • Encourage their sense of independence and self-esteem.

  • Provide for their safety and physical well-being.

  • Provide a wide variety of experiences which promote curiosity, expand their interests and create enthusiasm for learning.

For the Parents

  • Become knowledgeable about the developmental growth of children.

  • Learn techniques for working with toddlers and preschool children.

  • Learn how to relate activities to the child's stage of development.

  • Learn to enjoy and relax in the companionship of one's child.

  • Gain insight into the meaning of children's behavior.

  • Recognize signs of growth and learn ways of fostering its progress.

  • Increase awareness that each child is unique and that there is a wide range of normal differences between children.

  • Learn to recognize their own parental style and make adjustments when appropriate.
